Gbais Obou Yves Fredy has been passionate about drawing and painting since childhood. The political-military crisis in Côte d'Ivoire began on 19 September 2002, a crisis that caused both human and material disasters.
Obou’s research and artistic production focuses on this theme, the aftermath of this crisis and these traumatic memories.
Obou always wanted to pursue a pictorial career. “I saw this avenue as a way to combine my passion for art with my traumatic experience.” After witnessing and being the victim of many social and political problems, his work turned towards the human condition. He chose to distort the faces of his characters because for him, we cannot talk about war, trauma, suffering and oppression without the mental and physical deformation and transformation.
In 2017, Obou exhibited at Ta'art Gallery in Zurich (Switzerland) on the system D theme. In 2018, he exhibited collectively on the theme “Give Life Back” where he paid tribute to the status of women.
In 2019, Obou participated in the exhibitions organized by the ArtTime gallery in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Exhibition at the Gallery LouiSimone Guirandou in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
He works and lives between Berlin, and Abidjan.
